Here is what’s in MØØ.
What are postbiotics?
The postbiotics in MØØ are clinically studied. The strain identified in the published research is HT-ES1, short for heat-treated Bifidobacterium longum. It is the reason a carton of MØØ can stand behind a genuine gut benefit, not just a label.
Postbiotics are the stable, measurable compounds that beneficial bacteria produce. The International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics defines a postbiotic as a “preparation of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that confers a health benefit on the host” (Salminen et al., Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2021). In plain terms: the studied result of bacterial activity, not the live bacteria.
That distinction is the whole reason MØØ can exist. Postbiotics don’t need refrigeration to stay active, so they can be built into a shelf-stable carton and behave the same way every time you pour it. No cold chain. No guesswork about what survived the journey to your fridge.

Why postbiotics, not probiotics?
Probiotics are live cultures. Effective when they survive, but fragile and variable once they leave the cold. Postbiotics are the studied outcome rather than the living organism: characterized, dosed precisely, and stable on the shelf.
The difference between hoping a culture survived and delivering a defined ingredient every time.
Postbiotics
The studied outcome of bacterial activity. Characterized, dosed precisely, stable on the shelf.
No cold chain needed. Can be built into a shelf-stable carton and behave the same way every time you pour it.
Probiotic
Live cultures. Effective only when they survive, but fragile and variable once they leave the cold chain.
Requires refrigeration. Results vary depending on what survived transit.
The clinical trial behind the postbiotics.
One major published placebo-controlled trial confirms what we say about HT-ES1. We report it the way it was run, including the population studied.
A randomized, three-arm, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of live ES1 and heat-treated HT-ES1 in adults with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D).
Srivastava et al. (2024). Gut Microbes 16(1):2338322.
Design
Randomized, three-arm, double-blind, placebo-controlled (multicenter, India).
Participants
200 adults, ages 18 to 65, diagnosed with IBS-D (Rome IV).
Duration
12 weeks (84 days), two capsules once daily.
Daily dose
2.5 billion heat-treated HT-ES1 cells (the live ES1 arm received 1 billion CFU).
Primary endpoint
Change in IBS Symptom Severity Score (IBS-SSS) from baseline.
Result
- Primary endpoint met
- HT-ES1 reduced IBS-SSS by 177.6 points versus 60.4 for placebo (p < 0.0001)
- The live ES1 arm showed a similar, statistically significant improvement
What the study doesn’t say.
Honesty matters more than a tidy summary, so here’s the careful version.
The study delivered HT-ES1 in capsule form, not in a plant-milk matrix. We extend its findings to MØØ based on the postbiotics’ stability profile, because heat-inactivated cells behave consistently across formats, but the matrix change has not itself been clinically trialed.
The trial enrolled people with diarrhea-predominant IBS. The size of the benefit in that population is not what a general-wellness drinker should expect, so on consumer pages we say “supports digestive comfort” rather than reporting the trial’s numbers.
IBS-SSS and quality-of-life measures rely on participant self-assessment, the standard for this kind of trial. They are meaningful, but not instrument-measured. Results vary from person to person: some saw substantial improvement, some saw none.
MØØ is a food. Nothing on this page is a medical claim. If you’re managing a diagnosed digestive condition, treat this page as background for a conversation with your healthcare provider, not a substitute for one.
How the postbiotics get into the carton.
The postbiotics come from the same strain studied in the Srivastava 2024 trial (HT-ES1), added to our oat and almond at the production stage. Because they are heat- and shelf-stable, they survive UHT processing and stay active at room temperature for the life of the carton.
Pending client legal review before publish: the per-serving dose of HT-ES1 in MØØ versus the trial dose; confirmation the MØØ ingredient is identical to the studied material; cleared US claim language; and any required FDA disclaimer.
We won’t publish a number we can’t stand behind, so anything under review stays off this page until confirmed.
